The Department of Senior Services provides specialized services for Wheeling residents aged 55 and better.  Services include social services provided by a social worker, the Wheeling Pavilion Senior Center, and Congregate Dining meal service to older adults 60 years and better.

Social Services are provided by a full time social worker.  She provides case management, mental health assessments, memory screenings, support groups for older adults dealing with depression and/or compulsive hoarding.  Supportive services for patients with Parkinson’s and their caregivers and families are also available. Telephone Reassurance, a friendly call daily to check in on homebound older residents, is available by calling the Social Worker at 847.459.2670. Information and referral to local resources and Benefits Check-up are also available through the Social Services section of the Senior Services Department.

First Street, Wheeling, IL 60090.  Our mission is to provide a caring environment for older adults to participate in intellectual, social, physical, and community service activities and programs.  You will find many activities, services and programs for older adults, 55 years old and better.  Congregate Dining and Social services are both located at the Wheeling Pavilion Senior Center.

Congregate Dining : The Wheeling Pavilion Senior Center hosts a congregate dining program for older adults 60 years and better.  The program highlights the diversity of Wheeling by offering a variety of ethnic favorites as well as American standards. Services and information will be available in many languages including Spanish, Russian, Polish, Korean, and others as needed.  A nutritionally balanced lunch will be served Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:30am until 1:00pm. to registered participants.  Social activities and informational programs are a part of this program as well.  Each participant receives written information regarding the cost of the meal and has the opportunity to contribute to part or all of the cost of the meal.  This program runs from October 2009 through September 2010. Funds for this program are provided through an award from AgeOptions under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, through the Illinois Department on Aging and Federal Administration on Aging.  For more information regarding how to register or volunteer, please contact the Wheeling Pavilion Senior Center at 847.459.2670 and ask for Shari.
