Services > FirePharmaceutical Drugs and Sharps CollectionThe Wheeling Health Commission, conducts scheduled programs for the collection of outdated, no longer needed pharmaceutical drugs, as well as used sharps (i.e. medical needles)/syringes. DATE: Third (3rd) Saturday of each month PLACE: Wheeling Police Department (1 Community Boulevard)
TIME: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm (noon) (*) (*): Items may only be dropped off on these dates and times. Nothing may be dropped off prior to or after each collection date. These collections are only open to Village of Wheeling residents. A photo ID (ex. State of Illinois drivers license, State of Illinois ID card, etc.) must be shown in order to drop off items for collection. Pharmaceuticals that can be collected should be in their original container. No liquid pharmaceuticals can be collected - only solids (tablets, capsules, or powders) may be collected. If there is personal information on the pharmaceutical container (ex. patient name), cross out only the personal information with a black marker or pen. All sharps and/or syringes must be in a rigid, sealed container (ex. sharps container, coffee can, laundry detergent bottle, etc.). Loose sharps and/or syringes or those simply placed in a plastic bag or Ziploc bag will not be accepted. Controlled substances are not allowed by the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to be collected as part of this program.
