Fire Prevention Bureau - Change Your Clock-Change Your Batteries

The Wheeling Fire Department encourages you to check the operation of all your Smoke Detectors and your Carbon Monoxide Detectors in your home on March 11th. Check that the detector works properly and change the batteries in your detectors twice a year, every time you change your clocks.

Likewise, consider or research the age or manufacture date of your detectors. We recommend that you replace your detectors after 10 years of operational life which helps ensure the reliability of your detectors to maximize the protection of your family and property.
