Parks and Facilities

The Wheeling Park District hosts eight parks throughout the community with ample facilities including baseball, softball and soccer fields, tennis courts, a gymnasium and winter ice skating rink.  In cooperation with the Northwest Special Recreation Association, the Park District offers yearend leisure opportunities for persons of all ages. Certified professional staff understands the needs of those with physical, mental, visual, hearing, behavioral or emotional limitations. The Park District is a tremendous year round feature of the community that is second to none.

Built in 1920 and recently renovated, the Country Club continues to be a community landmark. The Club’s 18-hole championship golf course, ballroom, restaurant and three banquet rooms have been a gathering place for social activity, dances and sporting events for eighty years.

Cook County Forest Preserve

The Cook County Forest Preserve follows the Des Plaines River through Cook County’s north suburbs.  Accessible natural outdoor amenities entice visitors to take part in horseback riding, hiking, biking, fishing and nature watching throughout the Forest Preserve and along the scenic Des Plaines River.
